Welcome to VirtualCHIP.

VirtualCHIP is a Java-based implementation of the CHIP-8 interpreted language. CHIP-8 was designed by Joseph Weisbecker for RCA in 1977 to make it easier to develop video games- for computers based on the RCA 1802. Twenty years later, CHIP-8 intrepreters appeared on graphing calculators, which by that point had more computing power than the RCA 1802. To ease development of new games, and take advantage of the newer hardware, an extention of CHIP-8 was created for the HP-48 Graphing Calculator, which came to be known as SCHIP, or CHIP-48.

Despite the availability of devices that are capable of running CHIP-8 and CHIP-48, few games were made, none of which were released on a commercial basis. All of the games on this website are public domain.
